Submission Guidelines

You can submit up to three poems, but remember we will only choose one to feature.
Response time: anywhere from the same day to a few weeks.

To submit:

  • send up to three poems, single spaced, in the body of an email
  • no simultaneous submissions
  • no attachments please unless it's visual poetry (in which case JPG or PNG format only please)
  • email poemalone [at] outlook [dot] com
  • include a brief third person bio (50 words max), including a link to your social media or website if you have one.

Please note:

We're open to poetry of all styles and genres, however there are a few things to note...
  • It doesn't matter about your experience, publication history or educational background, the poem is the main thing. Poems will be selected on the power of the poem, rather than the poet. However, free feel to mention these in your bio, for the reader to get to know you a bit.
  • Please remember to spellcheck and proofread your poems!
  • Poems that involve hate speech (racism, sexism, religious discrimination, etc), or submissions that do not follow the guidelines, will be rejected without reply.
  • If you use rhyme, we would prefer to see it applied within the strict discipline of a form.
  • Spelling differences will be amended to the UK variant.
  • We accept previously published work; however, please ensure that you have retained copyright of the poem to republish / it is not currently under exclusive publishing rights / you have permission from the copyright holder to republish. Please make it clear in your submission where and when the poem was originally published, and state that there is no restriction with us republishing the work.
Any submission that doesn't accord to the guidelines will be rejected without reply.
Please wait at least three months before submitting again.
